Join us for a unique and enriching workshop designed to spark creativity and connection with each other, our artist-selves and the natural world.
Our workshop begins with playful warm-ups, trust-building games, and exercises to enhance presence and attention. In pairs, participants will embark on a transformative journey starting with a nature walk, where they'll be invited to navigate visual and sensory experiences together through the practice of noticing and sharing what they discover.
Back in the Atelier Citrina print studio, we'll delve into the art of monoprinting. Participants will be encouraged–without constraints of right or wrong– to visually explore their responses to the sensorial world, resulting in beautiful creations reflective of their unique experiences. Finally, we'll gather to admire each other's prints, fostering a sense of community and appreciation.
The workshop concludes with a reflective circle, where participants can share their feelings and experiences in a supportive environment.

Workshop overview
Join Lena for a unique two-day workshop where you'll learn the ancient art of wet plate photography. Known for her "Mothers of the Earth" initiative, Lena invites you to explore this 19th-century process, blending salt, silver, and water in an alchemical dance with the elements. In this hands-on course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wet plate photography, from mixing chemicals and preparing plates to capturing portraits or still life with a large format camera.Experiencing this type of photography is truly magical. It’s a passage into the past that brings us into the present, offering a space to pause and contemplate.
Workshop details
Day 1: The journey begins with a brief historic introduction to the birth of photography. You’ll learn about the alchemical process that gave rise to the first photographic images, setting the stage for the hands-on experience that awaits.
Starting with the preparation of your glass plate, you’ll sensitize it with silver nitrate. Then you’ll step behind the large format camera and capture your first image. You’ll then personally develop and fix the plate by hand, watching as the image emerges from the depths of the emulsion. The process is instant, and within 20 minutes, you’ll witness your image come to life.
Day 2: On the second day, you’ll refine your technique and gain confidence in the process. You’ll experiment with different exposures and practice your developing skills. You will also varnish your plates over a flame, bringing your images to completion.
By the end of the workshop, you will have not only mastered the technical steps of wet plate photography but also experienced the true magic of the medium. There’s something deeply enchanting about watching your image come to life in real time, as though the moment itself is being captured by a force older than time.
The process invites you to slow down, savour each step, and feel a deep connection to the art of photography.
You’ll leave with your own unique plates and the memory of having created something truly magical.
