Easter Printmaking School

Paper painting instalation by Geoffroy Pithon

Easter

Printmaking School

A five-day lino-cut voyage into the flamboyantly abstracted world of artist Geoffroy Pithon.

Course overview

Geoffroy Pithon is a French artist celebrated for his immersive abstract paper painting installations, that express fantastical, colourful abstract scenes reminiscent of plant, insect and underwater worlds or lush tropicana.

His works combine elements of graphic design with post-impressionist painting, achieving a rare kind of abstract storytelling where he creates lively visual worlds that feel both organic and dreamlike.

In this playful five-day Easter Printmaking School, participants will explore watercolour painting, collage and multi-layered lino cut inspired by the joyful visual language of Geoffroy Pithon.

Beginning with observational watercolour painting and imaginative collage, students will create their own vibrant paper painting compositions filled with underwater landscapes, plant life and re-imagined insect creatures. These watercolours will then become the starting point for a carefully built, five-layer lino-cut print.

Through a series of guided exercises, students will learn how to translate their imagery into printmaking using traditional lino cut techniques and colour layering. Working step by step with registration methods and the printing press, each participant will produce a small, limited edition of five richly coloured prints, discovering how different layers of shape and colour interact to create depth and rhythm within a single image.

Each day will build on the last as we move from watercolour and collage into carving and printing, gradually constructing our compositions layer by layer. Along the way students will develop confidence in their painting, learn the fundamentals of relief printmaking, and experiment with colour, abstraction, and composition.

By the end of the week, each student will leave with their own limited edition of five multi-layered lino prints, alongside an abstracted Pithon-esc paper painting that reveals the story behind their creative process. The course will conclude with a small informal exhibition and group critique where parents are invited to see the finished works.

A week of bold colour, imaginative experimentation, and hands-on discovery in the exciting world of printmaking.
